Seminar on ‘Empowering Women through Entrepreneurship’ held in Aizawl

Aizawl | Feb 19, 2020: Seminar on ‘Empowering Women through Entrepreneurship’ organized by National Commission for Women, Govt. Of India and UGC-Women’s Studies Centre, Mizoram University held at Hotel Regency, Zarkawt, Aizawl today. The seminar was inaugurated by Mizoram University  Vice Chancellor Prof KRS Sambasiva Rao.


Prof Lalneihzovi delivered a warm welcome to the audience and students of MZU. National Commission for Women Member Secretary Meeta Rajivlochan addressed the occasion by emphasizing the role played by women entrepreneurs especially in rural areas. She said that the economically empowered women participate, contribute and benefit from growth processes of economy and business which made it possible for them to negotiate a fairer distribution of the benefit of growth. She further said that access to economic resources and opportunities including jobs, financial services, property and other productive assets, skill development and market information enabled them to have control other their lives and exert influence in society. She emphasized on the importance of awareness about financial assistance, procedural formalities, business administration which overall limited the networking industry and also hindered the growth of business.

  

The first session was concluded with the success story shared by Women Entrepreneurs in Mizoram – Christina Lalnuntluangi (Christy Ice Cream), Sangzeli (Vakiria), B Zahmingthangi (Handloom Weaver) and Dr. Suzanne Lalnunkimi (Nancy love skin).

The second session was started with a discussion entitled ‘Empowering Women Through Entrepreneurship’ moderated by Prof. Margaret Ch Zama, and National Commission for Women chairman Ms Rekha Sharma, Mizoram Planning secretary Dr C Vanlalramsanga, Prof. Darun Kumar and Dr Rama Ramaswamy as panellists. This was followed by Open House Discussion and Interactions.
