R LALZIRLIANA RESIGNS MIZORAM HOME MINISTER AFTER SHOW CAUSE NOTICE

Aizawl | September 14, 2018: Mizoram state home minister and Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee vice president R Lalzirliana resigned as the member of the Lal Thanhawla cabinet on September 14.

“I have resigned from the cabinet minister, but I am not resinged from member of the Congress.” said a 69 year old - R Lalzirliana

Pu R Lalzirliana who represents Tawi assembly constituency also held the charge of power and electricity, rural development and excise and narcotics portfolios and was the second most powerful person in the cabinet headed by chief minister Thanhawla.

In his letter, Lalzirliana said his resignation was in protest against the unfulfilled promised to recognise Saitual areas as a district and Saitual as a district headquarter in the state.

Mizoram Congress Party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, had promised a district status to Saitual at Saitual on 2013, which falls within Lalzirliana’s constituency where he has been elected for four consecutive terms since 1998.

He was served show cause notice by the Congress in the state for alleged anti-party activities.
Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee’s disciplinary committee has served a show cause notice to Lalzirliana, who is also party’s vice president.

The show cause notice was served on R Lalzirliana on Wednesday asking him to furnish his reply within Friday after he made statements about offers from various parties to join them and reports about him being in the list of official candidates of opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) for the upcoming election. Instead of replying the notice, he resigned from Home minister.
