Congress Committee vice president R Lalzirliana resigned as the member of the
Lal Thanhawla cabinet on September 14.
“I have resigned from the cabinet minister,
but I am not resinged from member of the Congress.” said a 69 year old - R

Pu R Lalzirliana who represents Tawi assembly
constituency also held the charge of power and electricity, rural development
and excise and narcotics portfolios and was the second most powerful person in
the cabinet headed by chief minister Thanhawla.
In his letter, Lalzirliana said his
resignation was in protest against the unfulfilled promised to recognise
Saitual areas as a district and Saitual as a district headquarter in the state.
Mizoram Congress Party leaders, including
Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, had promised a district status to
Saitual at Saitual on 2013, which falls within Lalzirliana’s constituency where
he has been elected for four consecutive terms since 1998.
He was served show cause notice by the
Congress in the state for alleged anti-party activities.
Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee’s
disciplinary committee has served a show cause notice to Lalzirliana, who is
also party’s vice president.
The show cause notice was served on R Lalzirliana
on Wednesday asking him to furnish his reply within Friday after he made
statements about offers from various parties to join them and reports about him
being in the list of official candidates of opposition Mizo National Front
(MNF) for the upcoming election. Instead of replying the notice, he resigned
from Home minister.
