Speech of General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram on the occasion of 25th Graduation and Lamp Lighting Ceremony of Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS) at RIPANS, Zemabawk on 7th October 2025.
Dr. Sanjay D. Sawant, Director, Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS), Members of Faculty, staff, Distinguished guests, proud parents, Dear graduates.
I am very happy to be here on this momentous occasion of the 25th Graduation and Lamp Lighting Ceremony of the Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS).
Today marks the end of your years of hard work, and commencement of the journey of service, compassion, and responsibility. A whole new world of service to humanity and being called as demigods by those who will benefit from you. Each one of you has reached this milestone through dedication, perseverance, and the support of your teachers, mentors, and families. I congratulate you all. This celebration belongs not only to the graduates, but also to everyone who guided and believed in them and motivated them.
The professions you are entering, namely nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory science, radio imaging, optometry, physiotherapy, nutrition and dietetics, are not ordinary careers. They are callings of service, rooted in compassion and care. These need hard work and a smile to cheer all around you.
You stand at the meeting point of science and humanity. Every patient you serve, every diagnosis you assist with, every act of care you perform brings comfort and dignity to someone in need. Always remember that your profession is not just a means of livelihood; it is a sacred duty and one of the noblest forms of service.
The uniforms and white coats you wear symbolise trust, integrity, and commitment. Uphold these values with empathy and excellence wherever your path takes you. To our nursing students, the Lamp Lighting Ceremony you observe today is a profound tradition symbolizing purity, dedication, and lifelong devotion to humanity. The flame you hold represents the light of knowledge and compassion. Let it guide your hearts as well as your hands. May it shine brightly in moments of challenge and continue to illuminate the lives of others throughout your careers.
RIPANS stands today as a proud symbol of progress in health education in the North East. It is a matter of great satisfaction that this Institution has produced generations of skilled, disciplined, and compassionate professionals who serve across India and abroad with distinction.
I take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to the Central Government under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, for its steadfast commitment to strengthening the health sector, particularly in the North Eastern region.
The establishment of a 100-bed hospital at RIPANS, supported by the Central Government, is a landmark initiative. This facility will not only enhance healthcare delivery in Mizoram, but also provide invaluable hands-on training for students. It reflects Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, where every region and every citizen benefits from progress.
The government’s focus on Ayushman Bharat, expansion of medical and nursing colleges, and the upgrading of rural health infrastructure are creating new avenues of opportunity for young professionals like you. I urge you to seize these opportunities with dedication and purpose.
The people of Mizoram and the North East are known for their sincerity, discipline, and compassion. These qualities make our nurses and paramedical professionals highly valued in hospitals across India as well as healthcare institutions outside the country. You are global ambassadors of care and competence. Carry forward that reputation with humility, professionalism, and pride.
Having had the privilege of serving our Nation in uniform, I have learned that true service is not measured merely by rank or position, but by purpose and integrity. Every honest act, every kind word, and every compassionate gesture strengthens the fabric of our society.
There will be times when the work feels exhausting or unrecognized. In those moments, remember the purpose that brought you here, which is to serve, to heal, and to bring hope. Even the smallest act of care can transform a life.
To the Director, faculty and staff, I convey my appreciation for your dedication in nurturing this generation of healthcare professionals. I am certain that your tireless efforts have shaped their knowledge, as also their values and sense of duty.
To the parents and families, my warmest congratulations. Your sacrifices and encouragement have made this day possible. And to the graduates, as you step into this new chapter, remember that the journey of learning never ends. Stay humble, stay curious, and let compassion be your guiding light. You are the pride of North East and of India.
May you bring honour to your profession, your families, your alma mater, and the nation. Congratulations once again, and I wish you all success, wisdom, and fulfilment in the years ahead.
Ka lawm e, Thank you. Jai Hind.
