1st State Level Committee (SLC) Meeting on Standardization & Quality Systems conducted

Aizawl, the 17th January 2023: The 1st meeting of the newly formed State Level Committee (SLC) for Standardization, Quality Systems and Hallmarking activities for the State of Mizoram was held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, Dr. Renu Sharma , IAS, on 17 Jan 2023 in the SAW conference hall at Mizoram Secretariat.


Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, Food Civil Supplies &CA, Smt. Ramdinliani IAS welcomed the members and stated the objectives of the State Level Committee.

Chief Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, gave the inaugural address and stressed that the committee should take up the action included in the agenda of the meeting like creation of Standardization Cells in Govt. Dept., Certification of Piped drinking water, Awareness about Hallmarking of Gold jewellery and its implementation by involving Self-Help groups, Capacity building of government dept. on Standards formulation, promotion and implementation. She also emphasised on the need of the Government Departments to work in tandem with BIS in order to achieve the objectives of the committee.

Deputy Director General Eastern Region (DDGE), Shri Dibyendu Chakrabarti, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as a member of the committee emphasised that relevant Indian Standards may be referred in their tenders and State Goverment should procure ISI Marked goods wherever available . He also requested the State Govt. to go for Certification of Piped Drinking Water, Prevent the sell of Non-ISI Packaged Drinking Water, Implementation of Quality Control Orders, setting up of Assaying & Hallmarking Centres in the State of Mizoram. He stressed the need for creation of Standardization Cell in Government Departments, formation of Student Clubs for better understanding of Quality, Safety and Standardization in Schools and Implementation of Management System Certification in the Government Departments.

In his presentation Sabyasachi Dhar Head Guwahati informed the house about the developments and new initiatives taken by Bureau of Indian Standards and about BIS Care App. State Governments were informed about the products under mandatory certification i.e. Helmets, Packaged Drinking Water, pressure cooker ,HSD Bars etc and the concerned authority expressed their interest for implementation of the QCO’s . They also agreed for creating awareness about Hallmark jewellery among the consumers.

The SLC meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the Chair by DDGE, BIS.
