Governor lays Foundation Stone for Rs 60.31 Crore projects of the Mizoram University

Aizawl, the 16th February 2022: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati laid the Foundation Stone for the various projects sanctioned to Mizoram University under the EWS Scheme by the Ministry of Education and UGC at the Mizoram University (MZU) Campus, Tanhril, Aizawl this morning.  The Engineering Projects (India) Limited (EPIL) is selected to take up these 6 projects worth Rs 60.31 crore; 4 buildings inside the MZU campus and 2 buildings inside the Pachhunga University Campus, College Veng, Aizawl.




After he laid the Foundation Stone for the 6 projects under the EWS Scheme, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati addressed the gatherings and expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of India for strengthening the University’s earnest effort to provide quality education to the students.  He acknowledged the fact that despite being a relatively young University, the MZU managed to become one of the better universities in the Country. For this, he gave credit to the cumulative efforts of all the stakeholders since the inception and particularly praised the tireless effort of the current administration.

He was very pleased to learn that the MZU is being one of the leading universities in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He further emphasized the need for skill development and challenged the faculties to produce more and more job creators instead of educated job seekers as per the frameworks of the NEP 2020. On elaborating the aptness of the NEP 2020 to make India a global knowledge superpower, he affirmed his conviction of the policy being designed in such a way that it meets both the local and global needs of the country. He also pointed out that this policy was designed to drive India to become economically self-reliant by reciting the lines from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who once stated that “The new education policy will play an important role in the making of Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant), modern, new and prosperous India”.  

To conclude his address, he once again congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and his colleague of distinguished academicians for securing vital infrastructural projects under EWS and remind them of their important responsibility in ensuring the success of the National Education Policy 2020, especially in relation to higher education.

According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Mizoram University was ranked 67 in the country for the year 2020. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021 placed Mizoram University in the 601-800 Rank among 1115 Universities worldwide. It was ranked 21 among 49 Universities in India, and secured 1st place in North East India. Mizoram University was also accredited ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in 2019.

As per the report from the Finance Officer, there will be 4 projects inside the MZU Campus, Tanhril and 2 projects inside the PUC, College Veng. Within the MZU Campus, 1 Boys Hostel with a capacity of 100 seats ( Rs 10.7 Crore), 2 Girls Hostels with a capacity of 100 seats each ( Rs 21.28 Crore) and 1 Academic Building ( Rs 15 Crore) will be constructed. While 1 Academic Building ( Rs 7.46 Crore) and 1 Boys Hostels with a capacity of 50 seats(Rs 5.85 Crore) will be constructed within the PUC Campus.

The Foundation Stone laying programme at the MZU was presided over by Prof Lalnundanga, Registrar. The programme commenced with the welcome speech from Prof KRS Sambasiva Rao, Vice-Chancellor who gave a brief report on the background and the progress of the Mizoram University. Prof. Vanlalchhawna, Finance Officer gave report on the projects of the MZU under EWS. While, Mr Nageshwar Rao, Executive Director, EPIL  briefly reported the execution plan of the projects, all of which will be expected to be completed within 18 months from the date of commencement without any provision for revision of the original estimate.
