Mizoram MLA S Laldingliana passes away



Aizawl | November 3, 2018: Sitting Congress MLA in Mizoram S Laldingliana died at the age of 64 at his home in southern Mizoram’s town Lunglei Saturday morning. The two-time MLA was suffering from cancer.

Laldingliana was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2014. The cancer later spread to other parts of the body, family sources said.

After resigning as associate professor in Govt Lunglei College, Laldingliana joined politics and contested from Lunglei South constituency on Congress ticket in 2008 and got elected. He was made a parliamentary secretary for health minister in the previous Congress government. He got re-elected from the same seat in 2013 elections and became the chairman of Lunglei High Power Committee, a committee for the development of Lunglei district, constituted by the government.

Owing to his health issue, he was not given Congress ticket for the November 28 elections. Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee issued a condolence on Saturday.

Legislature who passed away while in sitting MLA are,  MPC MLA R Zading, MPCC MLA Harikristo Chakma, MNF MLA Laldenga, MNF MLA J Thanghuama, MNF MLA Aichhinga, MNF MLA B Lalthlengliana and MPCC MLA Chawngtinthanga.
