Mizoram Governor Spearheads IRCS Mizoram State Branch Revival, Launches Future Activities

Aizawl | July 10, 2025: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), President of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Mizoram State Branch, spearheaded a significant revival ceremony for the organization, launching future initiatives at Govt. Aizawl College, Mualpui, today. The event marked a pivotal moment in strengthening humanitarian efforts across the state, with the Governor presenting Institutional Membership Certificates to Govt. Aizawl College, the first to establish a Youth Red Cross Unit in Mizoram and Govt. T. Romana College, the second. Seven IRCS Mizoram State Branch leaders were honored with Life Membership Certificates for their unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission.


In his address, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) lauded the reboot of the IRCS Mizoram State Branch as a landmark achievement, emphasizing its potential to amplify humanitarian service in the state. He praised Mizoram’s deep-rooted tradition of compassionate community action, noting that the Mizo spirit of selfless support for others is a source of immense pride and said that, “The culture of helping others without anything in return is deeply ingrained in the Mizo way of life,". Urging continued collaboration with globally recognized organizations like the IRCS to bolster these efforts, "By revitalizing the IRCS Mizoram State Branch, we can further our commitment to serving humanity,” he added.

The Governor also commended the establishment of Youth Red Cross Units at Govt. Aizawl College and Govt. T. Romana College, encouraging other educational institutions across Mizoram to follow suit. He called on Mizo youth to actively engage in Red Cross initiatives, harnessing their time, skills and energy to drive humanitarian efforts. Describing the Red Cross as a beacon of hope, he shared his vision for Mizoram to emerge as a model state for Red Cross activities in India.

Pu H. Lalengmawia, Chairman of the IRCS Mizoram State Branch, outlined the organisation’s revival plans and expressed gratitude for the Governor’s support. He stressed ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the Red Cross in Mizoram and urged college authorities to establish more Youth Red Cross Units to expand the organization’s impact.

The ceremony featured a briefing by Dr. Benjamin Lalrinpuia, Joint Secretary of IRCS Mizoram State Branch and remarks by Pu Lalbiakzuala, Principal of Govt. Aizawl College. Dr. Chawnglungmuana, Secretary of IRCS Mizoram State Branch, concluded the event with a vote of thanks.

Following the programme, members of the newly formed Youth Red Cross Unit at Govt. Aizawl College participated in a Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid Training session, the first of its kind in Mizoram. The IRCS Mizoram State Branch also provided the unit with 30 blankets and an oxygen concentrator to support their humanitarian efforts.
