INSTITUTION: Govt Johnson College

Government Johnson College is Co - Educational Undergraduate institution located near Mizoram Police headquarters, Shivaji Tillah, Khatla, Aizawl, Mizoram. It is currently affiliated with Mizoram University.


The Beginnings:-
Bungkawn College: Bungkawn college traces its beginning when the community leaders of Bungkawn had the objective of beginning academic pursuits closer to students in the neighborhood. On 20 May 1992, Bungkawn College was established and the private college solely depends on the financial contribution made by the local community. Following the policy of Government of Mizoram, it was amalgamated with Johnson College, Khatla on 24 October 2002.

 

Johnson College: Previously named Khatla Arts and Commerce College, it was established on 27 July 1993 by community leaders of Khatla, Aizawl. The college is named after Mr P.P. John, an education-minded and a prominent resident of Khatla, who generously donated a sum of ₹12 lakhs. Consequently, the commerce stream was dropped and the Institution renamed Johnson college.

 

Principals:
Government Johnson College has Prof Darchhawna as the first principal of the institution from August 01, 1993 to November 05, 2002. Second Principal was Dr H Vanlalhlana from December 13, 2002 to August 31, 2010. And, the third and current principal is Prof K Vanlalmawia from September 01, 2010.

Department of Education - Lalramthari
Department of Political Science - Dr J Zahluna
Department of Economics - Hunpuiliana

 

Faculty:
Johnson College has 31 Teaching faculty members with 17 female and 14 male. Out of 31 Teaching faculty members seven are from English Department out of which two are contract basis and six are female teacher. Four departments; Mizo, Political Science, Economics and Education department has Five faculty members each and History department has the least with four faculty member.

Students enrollment:
Johnson College has 991 (571 Boys abd 420 girls)  students enrollment in 2019-2020 sesssion. There are 506 ( 300 boys and 206 girls) students in 1st year, 301 (182 Boys and 119 girls) students in 2nd year and 184 ( 89 Boys and 95 Girls) students in Third year.
