Mizoram University Celebrates Independence Day

Aizawl | August 15, 2019: Mizoram University fraternity  celebrated the 73rd year of India’s Independence at the MZU Administrative Block this morning. 

  

The Programme began with the unfurling of the National flag by Prof. K.R.S Sambasiva Rao, the Vice Chancellor of the University, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The Vice Chancellor then addressed the gathering, wherein he spoke about the history of India’s Independence and also highlighted the recent achievements made by the University and the progresses to be made to make the University amongst the Top 10 Universities in India. 

  


As per tradition of the University on Independence day, Dr. Lalremsiami, the University Librarian presented the Best Library User award to T. Lianhmingsanga, M.Phil, Department of Political Science, Mizoram University in the Student Category and Dr. Krishna Kant Tripathi, Department of Education in the Teacher’s Category.  This award was initiated in order to cultivate the habit of reading and inspire others to make use of the facilities offered by the Central Library.

Run for “Peace and Integrity” was also organized by the Mizoram University Sports Department on the early morning of the 73rd Independence Day from Ramrikawn to the University Main gate.  In the Men’s Category, Josia Vanlalruatpuia, Dept. of Commerce won 1st place, H. Rosiamkima, Dept. of Education won 2nd Place and Loknath, Dept. of Biotechnology won 3rd place. In the women’s category, Alice Kenye, Dept. of Forestry won 1st Place, Manzamawii, Dept. of Environmental Science won 2nd Place and TH. Vanlalngheti , Dept. of Education won 3rd Place. 

  

Mizoram University students to represent Mizoram at the Asia Pacific Youth Exchange (APYE), Korea 2019 also met with the Vice Chancellor after the Independence Day Celebration. The Asia Pacific Youth Exchange programme will be held from 18th -27th August, hosted by Hanyung University, Seoul, South Korea, under the theme "Multiculturalism for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals". 8 of the 13 Mizo youth delegates selected are from Mizoram University, and they will be escorted by 3 MLAs (Minister of Education, Mizoram Youth Commission Chairman, and 1 MLA) from Government of Mizoram and one professor from Mizoram University (Prof. HK Laldinpuii Fente, MZU’s Director of International Students Centre & Collaborations). 




  

Each delegate selects an area where s/he wants to work on among the 17 United Nations’s Sustainable Development Goals. Students from the MZU team to represent Mizoram are:

8.Christopher Lalthazuala, Geology ( Goal 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities)
