Maxicab operators threaten strike




Aizawl | September 27, 2018: Mizoram Maxi Cab Owners Association has threatened to stay off the roads from October 2 if the government fails to comply with the association’s proposal to hike maxicab fares and renew ‘all Mizoram permit’.
MMCOA president C Lalthanmawia stated that Mizoram government cancelled the ‘All Mizoram Maxi Cab permit’ in 2016 which was issued by Mizoram government in the year 1997.
 
In case of emergency, when maxicab wants to travel in a route other than the actual route in which they have permit, they faced many problem in taking special route/road permit.
Lalthanmawia stated that, in case of death and emergency, as humanity they always act like morgue van and carry dead bodies, the MVI Enforcement charged them around Rs 2000 as fine. 
In the year 2013, price of diesel was Rs 41-42 per litre and Brand new Sumo cost around Rs 5.9 – 5.9 lakhs.  In the year, the MMCOA special assembly resolved to have a rate of Rs 3 per km for metal road and Rs 3.50 for non-metal road. But, the STA fixed at Rs 2.50 and 2.75 respectively. 
The MMCOA have already requested several times to State Transport Authority, Transport minister John Rotluangliana and chief minister Lal Thanhawla to revise rates and permit system of maxi cab.
