MSU Holds Rally for Quality Education, Demands Action Against Unqualified College Teachers

Aizawl, July 7, 2025: The Mizo Students' Union (MSU) organized a "Rally for Quality Education" today, demanding that the government take decisive action against unqualified college teachers in Mizoram. The rally started from Vanapa Hall gate and culminated at the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education Office in Aizawl.


Rally Highlights
The rally consisted of two sessions. The first session was held in front of Vanapa Hall, where MSU General Secretary Zodinsanga chaired the rally, and MSU Assistant General Secretary Lalruatpuia presented the report. MSU President B Lalkhawngaihzuala, Joint Hnam Pual Students Organisation President K Jerome, and ACCJSU General Secretary C Lalduhsaka delivered speeches.

The second session was held in front of the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education (H&TE), where MSU Treasurer Lalrampanmawia chaired the meeting, and MSU Vice President Roluahpuia gave a speech.

Demands and Discussions
MSU President B Lalkhawngaihzuala emphasized that the Union is not in favor of giving opportunities to unqualified teachers and criticized the government's failure to fulfill their appeal. Vice President Roluahpuia highlighted that hiring unqualified teachers is a serious injustice and demanded stronger action from the government.

During the second session, MSU representatives held discussions with government officials. The government assured that they will implement a ban on unqualified teachers within five days due to the show-cause notice issued in response to MSU's complaint.


Resolution Adopted
The rally concluded by adopting a resolution with the following demands:
1. Decisive action against unqualified teachers: The government must act on the show-cause notices issued to unqualified Assistant Professors and ban them within 5 days.
2. Qualified candidates only: Only qualified candidates must be appointed in all future teacher recruitment.
3. Replacement of unqualified teachers: Unqualified Assistant Professors must be replaced by candidates who are definitely qualified for the Assistant Professor post.

The MSU welcomed the government's plan to implement a ban on unqualified teachers and emphasized that the government must take stronger action to stop this practice.
