Demographics:
As of 2011 India census,[2] Kolasib district had a population of 83,955. Males constitute 51.12% of the population and females 48.88%. Kolasib has an average literacy rate of 93.50%, higher than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 94.57%, and female literacy is 92.38%. Population growth rate of Kolasib district was 27.28 percent during the decade.

Population:
As per the Census India 2011, Kolasib city has population of 4,320 of which 2,178 are males and 2,142 are females. The population of children between age 0-6 is 754 which is 17.45% of total population.

The sex-ratio of Kolasib city is around 983 compared to 976 which is average of Mizoram state. The literacy rate of Kolasib city is 74.93% out of which 76.63% males are literate and 73.2% females are literate. There are 0.28% Scheduled Caste (SC) and 90.09% Scheduled Tribe (ST) of total population in Kolasib city.

Economy
Kolasib is agriculture-dominated economy with a few service sector jobs as it is a district capital. A large number of people cultivate beetle nut, oil palms, rice, wheat and fish which is both consumed and exported to other districts of Mizoram.

Transportation:
A helicopter service by Pawan Hans has been started which connects the Aizawl with Kolasib.
The distance between Kolasib and Aizawl through NH 54 is 83 km and is connected with regular service of bus and Maxi-Cabs.
